Parsons Surveying

In December 1998, Tyler Parsons was voted "Surveyor of the Year" for 1998 by the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon Board of Directors, and was presented with a plaque by the PLSO and the surveyor statue donated by POB Magazine.

This honor was awarded for outstanding contribution to the Surveying profession in Oregon. Through his efforts, the PLSO now has:

A presence on the Internet in the form of a web page with information about upcoming activities, a list of officers, chapter minutes and meeting information.

A general information mailing list for the PLSO membership.

Mailing lists for critical activities of the PLSO, such as the Board of Directors and the Legislative Committee.

Tyler was the 1997 President of the Willamette Chapter of the PLSO which hosted a very successful convention in Lincoln City, Oregon, He has been active in other areas of the PLSO, such as the Legislative Committee, which, since the 1995 Oregon legislative session, has proposed and helped get signed into law bills relating to surveyor's liens, statutes of limitations, right of entry onto private land for surveying purposes, and semi-independence of the state engineering and land surveying board. He also worked on the 1999 committee reviewing and revising the PLSO Bylaws and the Code of Ethics.

CFedS In 2007, Tyler was one of only 69 Professional Land Surveyors in the United States to be certified as a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS). The original 120 persons accepted into the new course administered by the Bureau of Land Management was the Beta test group for the CFedS program, intended to provide a pool of private Land Surveyors qualified to perform federally authorized surveys under BLM supervision on Indian tribal lands. Certification required approximately 120 hours of study of Indian history, customs, and land records, Public Land Surveys specific to Indian lands, general Public Land Survey techniques, and business models for evaluation of existing survey land record history,and passing of a 6 hour written examination. Receiving the top examination score for the test group, Tyler was awarded the first CFedS certificate ever issued, No. 1001.
